Who Is the Serpent in Genesis? — The Spirit of Deception Revealed

🐍 Who Is the Serpent in Genesis? — The Spirit of Deception Revealed

In Genesis 3, the serpent that deceived humanity was not an ordinary animal.
The Bible reveals it as a spiritual being that broke the relationship between God and mankind—the one who twisted God’s word and planted falsehood in the heart of man.

1️⃣ The Serpent Was More Than a Creature

Genesis 3:1 says,

“Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made.”

The word cunning here means crafty and deceptive, not simply intelligent.
And since the serpent spoke with Eve, it points to a spiritual power working through a being, not just a physical snake.

2️⃣ Revelation Identifies the Serpent

Revelation 12:9 clarifies everything:

“The great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray.”

So the serpent in Genesis is Satan—the deceiver of the world.
He opposes God and spreads lies through distorted teachings.

3️⃣ What the Serpent Did — Twisting God’s Word

God said, “Do not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.”
But the serpent replied, “You will not surely die… you will be like God.”

That statement reversed the truth.
He replaced God’s command with his own logic—introducing false doctrine.
When humanity accepted that lie, spiritual death entered the world.

4️⃣ The Two Lineages — Seed of the Woman vs. Seed of the Serpent

In Genesis 3:15, God declared:

“I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed.”

This was more than a prophecy—it was a division between two spiritual lineages:

  • Seed of the serpent → those who spread lies and false teachings
  • Seed of the woman → those who keep and proclaim God’s true word

This battle begins in Genesis and concludes in Revelation 12,
where the woman and the dragon (the same serpent) appear again in conflict.

5️⃣ The Serpent Today

The serpent still works today—not as a visible snake but through people who teach lies.
Jesus said in John 8:44,

“You belong to your father, the devil… for he is a liar and the father of lies.”

So anyone who distorts the Word of God, no matter the title—pastor, leader, teacher—
is carrying the same spirit of the serpent.

6️⃣ Knowing the Truth to Recognize the Lie

Falsehood always imitates truth.
Therefore, without knowing true doctrine, no one can recognize deception.

At Jesus’ first coming, His words were the truth received directly from God.
Those who rejected His message clung to tradition and became followers of falsehood.

At the time of Revelation’s fulfillment, the same principle applies.
In Revelation 10, John receives and eats the open book—the revealed Word of God.
And Revelation 1:1 shows the order of transmission:

👉 God → Jesus → angel → John → servants

Only the one who receives and eats the revealed book can speak the full truth.
Anyone else interpreting Revelation by imagination or personal opinion
is spreading falsehood and untruth.

Being a shepherd does not guarantee truth.
If one has not received God’s revelation, he inevitably speaks lies from human thought.

🌿 Conclusion

The serpent of Genesis was not a mere tempter;
he represents the spirit that corrupts God’s Word and deceives mankind.

Today, that same deception continues through false teachings.
To overcome it, one must know the true Word
the revelation that flows from God → Jesus → angel → John → the servants.

Only this revealed Word leads to life;
all other teachings, though sweet to the ear, are the way of death.
